Rozanna Velen is an excellent family law attorney. Look at her retainer as a long term investment-you pay a bit now, but save a bunch in the long run. Rozanna will give the facts and law to you straight, and let you know your options and risks. There are not many attorneys who will tell you to take a route that will make her less money...but that's how much of a straight shooter she is. I've sent dozens of people over to Rozanna. She is a respected professional in the legal community. She has obtained excellent results for myself, my friends and associates- including someone who originally (before retaining Rozanna) agreed to pay their spouse $80k...but after hiring Rozanna my friend RECEIVED $80k from their spouse. (Don't try to do a divorce alone if you have assets.) All major life decisions are difficult and making the decision to divorce my ex-wife was by far one of the most challenging decisions and experiences I’ve ever endured. My divorce from my ex-wife should not have been a complicated one, but my ex-wife and her “super lawyer” wanted to make it a long, drawn out and costly experience with the hope that by deploying underhanded delay tactics and never ending, senseless requests that my ex would be successful in stopping me from 50/50 legal and physical custody of my daughter, as well as other key divorce areas. I started my divorce journey by hiring “the wrong” attorney. I made an emotional decision related to my first attorney and hired an attorney who my friend had used for his easy divorce. After 1 year of endless mediation, countless emails, phone calls, senseless delays waiting for my ex to agree to 50/50 I was no farther along than when I started and had already spent thousands on attorney fees. I would leave a minus 5 star if i could. The Spermling (SO CALLED ) Law Firm is a joke. We paid almost $14000.00 for our case, but they didn't do much for over a period of 8 months for us.The opposing Lawyer was too smart for them. They are arrogant and incompetent , I was on the phone with Mitchel Spermling and asked him a question and he hung up the phone and dropped our case, because he is not competent to answer questions. I emailed them to get a break down on our payment and they never responded. I am filing a complaint to the State Bar. Stay away from this Law Firm, there are so many great ones out there.

After being separated from their mother for well over 3 years, my children and I started going through a difficult time with her due to very concerning behavior on her part. She started downright terrorizing us after she learned that I had started dating a man. She filed lawsuits, harassed and hounded us, tried to track our every move, took legal steps to keep my partner away from my children and failed miserably, secretly filmed and took pictures of us and even stalked us. Co-parenting with her was a nightmare before it became impossible. It became so stressful and scary for my children and their mental state that I came to the conclusion that I needed to take some serious action to protect our mental health and to put a stop to the bullying and the emotional abuse once and for all. Luckily, the Sperling Law Firm came to our rescue and helped us resolve our issues with this troll. My incredible attorney’s hard work led to the court granting me extended time with my children and I, and denying the monster every ridiculously controlling request and every viscous mean-spirited allegation. My children are finally at ease and love to spend most of their time in my care. And now that the monster has been repeatedly beaten by Lauren, it has humbled down and makes the weekly pick up/ drop off times less traumatizing for the children and I. This is the greatest gift to earn from this lengthy battle. My advice for anyone out there is to NEVER let a bully of any shape, form or relation, ruin the lives and mental health of your loved ones, and to hire the Sperling Law Firm to help you fight back! What can I say about Maryam? She is absolutely the best attorney I could have found. I am so lucky to have found her. She is very calm and collected when dealing with you. If I could give more stars, I would. Tamara literally saved my life from a dangerous predator. She knew exactly how to guide me through the process and made sure I understood everything before proceeding on to the next issue, and was always very straightforward and honest. Mine was a very long and drawn-out process due to the level of psychosis of the other party involved, and Tamara definitely went above and beyond to keep me safe and ensure that my property remained in my possession. She worked when she was sick, pulled all-nighters and hustled over the holidays to ensure my safety. She made sure I received the maximum amount of protection from the courts, and even helped me regain some of the legal fees. She truly cares for her clients and it shows. I know she had lots of other cases besides mine but she always made me feel as though she was always there for me, and always responded immediately in an emergency, no matter the hour. She is truly what a great attorney is SUPPOSED to be. I always felt confident with her support, and believe me when I say that you will do well to trust her. Addendum 07/18/2021: Well unfortunately I was in the position where I had to hire an attorney again because of the same vexatious litigant, but I am so grateful to have Tamara on my side! I looked at the reviews and they were really good so gave her a call to help me with my divorce case and she made an appointment and the consultation was $425 when there are other people who do free consultation. It was alot but she told me she would put it on my retainer fee. So we made an appointment with her and she said her secretary would send me an email to confirm and they never did. That was a red flag. But I gave her a chance and I called again to send the email and they did. Then we made an appointment. I was ready for my appointment and they cancelled on me when I payed the consultation already. We made another appointment. She was late for our new appointment and she called and she cut me off because she needed to "order lunch for her son for school." And I was like what kind of professionalism is this? Then I let her do what she needed to do which took like 30 minutes but it was fine because I'm also a mother but she could've done that before our appointment. At that point I regretted paying her. I asked how much I was going to pay to finish my divorce and she said $10,000. I was like omg to just finish? I thought it would be 2500 or something. I asked her for some of my money back because she didn't even anything and everything was incorrect and she started arguing with me when I didn't get my full hour consultation either. I thought everything would be fine but paying her in the first place was a big mistake. Shes not professional at all I don't recommend her. There are other people who give free consultation and do a good job unlike Tamara.

And even though court matters can take a while to settle in your favor, her advice was in alignment with what I needed to gain justice in a horrible situation. Karen Brown is by far the best family law attorney I have ever worked with!! I was working with a couple of attorneys from San Diego that completely ruined my current family custody case. My previous attorneys took advantage of my situation and didn't do anything in my best interest and against by wishes. Karen Brown sat down with me and helped me regain control of my case, my handle on life and my world which is my son. She spent countless hours rebuilding my case to make it the strongest possible. I wish divorce on nobody. It is about one of the ugliest things one can experience; but, of course, it is also one of life's unfortunate realities. Because of its inflammatory nature, who you have in your corner fighting for you is crucial. I had an unusual case in that I was already divorced (foolishly I was unrepresented in the initial proceedings) but my ex-wife was planning on relocating with my children to a different city (without my consent). Because I had no representation the first time around, I got completely squeezed financially with a support schedule I couldn't handle, and I needed it reduced legally. I interviewed three other divorce attorneys before a friend recommended Beverly Hills family law specialist Karen Brown. Every attorney I spoke with told me that I had a case, but Karen got the ball rolling immediately. She demonstrated her expertise in the area of family law, and I could tell that she was tough, and that's what I wanted, as I was dealing with some irresponsibly ruthless people and needed somebody strong by my side. Karen was definitely that. She was tough on me too, which was good because she prepared me for the difficult questions I would surely face in court (and which I did). Karen was thorough and always open for communication. Although it wasn't cheap (I only bring this up so you don't fool yourself in believing there will be an inexpensive way out, as some family law attorneys will lead you to believe. It just isn't so), she was mindful of my financial situation and allowed me to take care of anything I could that would keep costs down. When it became apparent that the other side was not willing to negotiate on any issue, Karen was an excellent strategist, making moves that ultimately secured our argument--I could not have asked for more. Come game day, Karen was prepared and solid in the courtroom, and everything turned out alright. Although I was unsuccessful at stopping the relocation, I received a great custody schedule--fair with time made up during summer for that which I'd lose as a result of the move away--my support obligation was lowered to a more reasonable schedule, and most importantly my ex-wife learned that she couldn't just arbitrarily and unilaterally make decisions regarding the children without a strong response from Karen's office, which ultimately has kept her in check. Again I say I wouldn't wish divorce on anyone, but if it is unavoidable, you need a strong professional in your corner, someone who understands family law comprehensively and who will be there for you during tough times, and not just dump you off on an inexperienced associate. I cannot recommend Los Angeles divorce attorney Karen Brown highly enough. For one of the most important decisions you may ever make--hire Karen Brown: you will not be disappointed.

Prior to hiring Karen, I had 5 attorneys, and $100,000 later. Two of these unethical attorneys betrayed me and worked with my ex's attorneys. The other 3 were useless and were intimidated by ex's attorneys. My ex came from lots of family money and very legally savvy and played the divorce court game extremely well. She hired two and three attorneys at a time, and they lied and coerced, and pressured me to agree to their demands. When Karen came on the scene, things changed for me and my children. She believed me and in me, and in the truth, and never gave an inch to the requests of my ex's attorneys. She stood strong and in the end the judge saw the true picture. I now enjoy great times with my two daughters, the two most important people in my life. Thanks to Karen's ethical standards, and care for the truth, and what is good for the children my life looks far brighter than it did when I had the worst representation with the previous 5 attorneys. WOW is the first word that comes to mind about Warren.  I had a tough case fighting for custody of my teenager.  It is hard to enforce custody orders when your child is older and it was imperative to have enforceable orders as the clock was running out.  His orders along with Ex Parte's to get the job done in the shortest time we could do, were amazing.  Warren knew just the orders to ask for that were enforceable.  If you are coming from your heart as a parent for the best interest of your child, taking steps towards that goal consistently and with determination. Warren can help you move forward as soon as possible for the best interest of your child.  I highly recommend him so very much!! I highly recommend him so very much!!

Warren did a fine job. I think we worked together, and communicated well, as a team. We established three or four key points. Gathered facts and data, and presented those in very clear, almost irrefutable Exhibits. Being as highly motivated as I was to win this case, I was willing to put in whatever hours were needed to generate documents that supported the arguments as Mr. Shiell indicated. All in all, the outcome was better than I had hoped.

I hired Warren Shiell to deal with a relatively straightforward matter involving the renegotiation of the final stages of my divorce agreement. While the legal aspects were not complicated, I needed someone who could help me plan out a strategy in advance (I came to him almost six months before a deadline mandated in the agreement) and be sensitive to the psychology of the situation. I’m sorry to report he was inattentive both to the case and to the notes I gave him about dealing with my ex, was difficult to reach, called out of the blue only when it suited him, failed to draft a proposal letter as I repeatedly ask him to do and then, with just a few weeks to go before deadline, disappeared on vacation for a month without any forewarning. The one document he produced was a strategy sheet, which largely reproduced work done by a forensic accountant (for which I had paid separately) and proved to be almost entirely unusable after I hired a new – fabulous, efficient, attentive and effective – attorney. After I dismissed him, it took him more than a month to provide a final billing and a check for the balance of my retainer, and then only after repeated reminders that became necessarily more insistent. In the wake of his dismissal, he charged three times as much for the last month as he had for previous four. He insisted he had charged me correctly for the work he put in, but I saw scant evidence that that was the case. I was deeply disappointed because Mr. Shiell came warmly recommended as a tough but fair-minded divorce lawyer who charged reasonable rates and gave clients their money’s worth. That was not my experience, on any front. Perhaps he didn’t find my case all that interesting. If so, he should have turned me down and/or referred me elsewhere, not wasted my time and my money. Others beware.
