My case just finished. I was being charged with two felonies, each punishable up to 5 years in prison. As a mother and college student being involved in the judicial system for the first time, I was terrified of losing my future. From the beginning, Mr. Burchett told me things were going to be okay. He listened to every detail and negotiated the best possible outcome for me, I was happy with the results of my case. One charge was dismissed, the other was reduced to a misdemeanor with no jail time. Mr. Burchett will never judge you and is very strategic with his plan of action to give you a good outcome. Idk what to Even say about how impressive any wonderful type of person in the law Windsor was no hope left for me I went for sentencing and I was looking at my back time which was 7 years the craziest thing Mr.burchette pulled off was don't ask me how he did it but he did it come somehow got the judge to let me walk out of there without spending A a day in jail and got me a probation got my community service dismissed got everything dismissed for me when me and Mr. Burchat walked out of the court room shocked that this juat happened... we se my probation offixer and the Commonwealth attorney look at each others like what just happened out So if your having any type of legal issues hes your man I pride miss you you will not regret it he goes above and beyond he treats your case like it was one of his family members escapes professional very curries very honest like very straight forward hes a beast the best also the staff he has is very professional especially the receptionist she is very polite and very very nice and amazing lady like I've called they're never had any issues she's always very very polite even though I'm annoying sometimes and I can call like eight times in a row trying to get in contact with somebody show pick up like this the first time and every time I called

This is the attorney you need and want. Don't expect him to hand you a handkerchief while you cry on his shoulder. He isn't that guy. Mr. Dance is the guy you hire when you have an irrational spouse and you need an end to the drama. He will get it done. Unlike some of the other high end attorneys in the area, Mr Dance does not over bill for services that are not needed, nor will he take the clients answers to discoveries only to copy and paste them into court documents while charging billable hours for the effort. If you can afford Mr. Dance this will be the best money you spend during your divorce. His advise is spot on. What he will save you in emotional stress, monetary loss, and your overall sanity in the long run is worth every penny upfront.

This is the second time I have retained Mr. Dance as a family law attorney. First in my own divorce case and the second for my daughter's custody and support case. For my own case, I retained Thomas after working with two prior attorneys for 2.5 years and not being able to come to a resolution. Within a couple of months, Thomas lent clarity and focus to my case and resolved it in record time. So when my daughter was in need of counsel concerning support and custody, it wasn't even a thought, Thomas was who we called. Thomas saw the case immediately for what it was, removed the emotion and in no time was able to get the case resolved in a best-case-scenario fashion for my daughter and grand-daughter. If you are in need of a family attorney and can get in with Mr. Dance, do yourself a favor and retain his services.

I was planning on writing a long, scathing review about this office; but I'll keep it simple. Jennifer Simmons is an incredibly rude, and unpleasant woman. The junior attorney that was assigned to me did a well enough job with my case (hence the 2 stars instead of 1), and I hope that they go on to be a successful attorney at some other office in the future. That said, I would not recommend going to this office, just because of the person who runs it. Very rude. Very Nasty. Very unempathetic. Stay away.

I typically would avoid putting my own stuff out there, but saw some of these postings and felt compelled to write my experience as it is relevant and quite current. Allow me to preface this by saying that if you are looking for the most inexpensive, cheapest attorney – then Jennifer is not for you. She is a professional and a SME in her profession. Experts cost money folks I certainly don’t expect to be paid pennies on the dollar for my skill level. With that being said Jennifer is one of the most ethically sound attorneys that I have ever had interactions with…Almost annoyingly so…lol.. Therefore, please take note: If you are looking for representation that will be on your side no matter what you do – She may not be for you as she represents the “common sense” approach and legally/ethically there is a right and wrong way of doing things. In my experience Jennifer works tirelessly to keep her clients on the “right” side of law and ensure that their actions and outcome are fair. She is highly respected in the area courts, which informs me that she has maintained a positive reputation. Her staff has always been courteous and open in communicating with me in a timely manner. I appreciate her work and would recommend her to anyone.

I have been working with Jennifer Simmons for about 2 years on my child custody case. Our case was quite complex, but I can say that through the process I always felt like Jennifer had my and my childs best interest in mind. I came to her lost and confused. What we appreciate the most is her honesty and how straightforward she was - Jennifer Simmons not sugarcoat situations and give us a false hope. If we were mistaking - she would say it. She was committed, involved and professional. She gave us advices on how to handle difficult situations and did more than just assist us legally. Jennifer Simmons is a terrible attorney. She represented me in a child custody case. She was rude and made me feel humiliated. She would threaten me, and pressure me to settle. I paid her over $12000. One week before trial, she had used up all my trust account money ($6000) and she asked me for an additional $6000. She wanted me to pay this now or she would not work on my case (this is against ethics rules). I paid her $1000, then a couple of days later another $5000, but she had stopped working on the case, missed deadlines and then because of this she forced me to settle as she was unprepared for trial. Again, do not use her, especially if you are a man. She took all $12000 for settling a simple child custody case,I believe she padded her invoices. If you too have been ripped off by this attorney, I recommend you file a complaint with the VA State Bar.

I started working with the Hopkins Law Firm back in November 2019 when I needed a lawyer because I was, suddenly, dropped by the highly recommended one firm this area. I picked up the phone and asked: "Hey Google, give me a Lawyer in Gainesville, Virginia" And this is how it started;. Since then and now, when I am a free man, with all my family affairs resolved by this excellent law firm and loving again (I never thought and hoped that I will be happy again). They where near me all the time, face to face meetings, courts appearances (won all the time), phone, text and e-mail conversations. They promise me that I will rise again (like a Phoenix bird) from the ashes that I was burned down by the system and society and they were right; I am back, stronger and happier than ever. If you need a lawyer, a good one, call them, you will not regret it.

Ugh. Do not hire Donna Dougherty to handle your case. When you meet her, you'll find that she is, in my opinion, brash and abrasive and unquestionably condescending. Your first thought is "Perfect, that's how she's going to work tirelessly on my behalf." You'll be wrong. That's how she'll continue to treat you and good luck getting to effectively advocate on your behalf. In my specific experience, she will rather yell at you (as her client) than work with opposing counsel on an amicable resolution (as I've learned since severing ties with this firm). My initial consult was full of "we're going to do this" and "we'll file this" and all great salesmanship. I was excited...finally an attorney that really wants to do more than push papers and genuinely wants to help create an optimal outcome for my child. Boo. Within 2 days of writing that first big monster retainer check to Donna, before any additional documentation was provided, the tone rapidly degraded to (paraphrased) "well, I'm not sure" and "hopefully we'll prevail" type speak. Sadly, I fell for it all and have lost almost every financial resource in the process. Now Donna is going after what little is left. That's really all you need to know about the character of the character. To say I've had nothing but problems feels like a gross understatement. Donna ran up my legal tab at a rate that has offended attorneys I've consulted with since; and it takes a lot to offend another attorney. Ultimately, Donna lost my case. Anything can happen in a courtroom, but this was a worst case scenario in the face of what should have been, fairly objectively, a ruling 180 degrees in the opposite direction. Despite being the attorney I retained, Donna did not appear at the hearing to argue for attorney fees (sadly, the mostly expensive part of the entire matter) and sent an associate instead. That mistake was another $12000+ on top of the mostly unsubstantiated $20k+ billed for a very simple case (that she lost). Now Donna is suing me although I've yet to be provided any granular itemization of the billable work "provided." Always beware of lawyers that gleefully sue their clients; it's a litmus test as to where their priorities lie in terms of monetary greed vs client advocacy. And, to pour more salt in the wound, Donna is now demanding 24% interest and thousands more in legal fees for suing her own client (me in this case). Her reputation in the local family law community exists for very good reasons. I wish I had figured that out beforehand (back before the reorganization of the firm). FINAL WARNING: If you're dealing with a sensitive family law matter involving your young children and their private meetings with therapists, you may want to consider a law office that does not send confidential psychiatric documentation to the WRONG CLIENT! That's right. Donna's law office sent me an another client's very private and sensitive data regarding the child's meetings with a therapist. I've yet to ever be answered as to whether sensitive data from my case was sent to someone else. If you retain her, perhaps you can update me on my case if/when you receive the wrong confidential records too. Don't make the mistake of making what is likely the most stressful and emotionally wrenching process of your life that much worse by hiring an attorney that values your checking account significantly more than operating in the best interests of you and your child/children.

Amy Tobias has been this Dad's attorney through a pretty complicated divorce, with issues that have flared up repeatedly over 9+ years. She has represented and advised me while she was an associate, a sole practitioner, and now as a partner. This is one very intelligent lady and knowledgeable and competent family law attorney. Her advice is always sound and direct. She cuts through the fluff and tells me what I need to know and what she needs from me. I have truly been blessed to find a law firm who is warm, supportive and caring for their clients, but killer Great White Sharks in the courtroom for divorce/custody. Amy Tobias and Claire Salitsky gave me my life back……..my son! I started off with a different law firm, which he was HORRIBLE!!!! I felt helpless and felt he did not put any effort into my case, just collecting my check. Don’t believe anything was done for me. If court appoints a mediator go with them, could have done better myself with them and paid less in child support and not paid a lawyer! Also wouldn’t have to wait 9 months until the trial date, and just to be disappointed after trail that nothing changed after the temp motion case. Also not be down over $1000 a month in child support. Lawyer says it’s okay you make a lot of money. Lesson learned hopefully you also don’t make mistake and go with a mediator if the court appoints it. I believe this is the worse that could have happened to me and it did. Even though I had a good case, kids were raised with me, and other parent had mental problems and lives less than 2 miles away. Couldn’t get 50/50 custody, could have gotten closer to 50/50 with mediator and not be down thousands. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Easiest divorce ever. But in all honesty this place was great. Might be a little bit more expensive than another firm (i wouldn't really know, i didn't shop around much) but the made everything extremely simple, and spoke to me in a respectful manner. Nothing was difficult to understand and all in really had to do was sign a few papers when the time came. My mother recommended them because they helped her about 20 years ago or so and they helped me as well. Really appreciate everyone here.

I highly recommend the Daugherty Law Firm and more specifically Kate Daughtery. When I first began my divorce I had no idea what to expect and immediately after our first consultation I felt relieved to be able to hire Kate as my counsel. She was very knowledgeable of what to expect, what to do and how certain decisions will impact myself. Throughout the entire divorce which lasted almost twelve months, due to the separation timeline, Kate was extremely helpful and diligent from start to finish. I always felt that I was confident with her and that I wasn’t being misled or misinformed. When the final stages of the divorce were being discussed, this was one of the hardest parts of the divorce because as a man the laws are rarely in our favor for these types of situations. Ms. Huchler (my lawyer), Ms. Wallace, Ms. Membreno and Ms. Arp were amazing to work with with throughout the entire process of my divorce! They were very responsive always returning my emails in a timely manner, answered all questions about any legal matter I had so well that a regular guy, like myself, could understand! And you always felt like they cared about helping you and defending you, I know they had several clients they were working with, but I always felt like I had their full attention. Incredibly professional and responsive. We had what I thought might be a legal situation which turned into an emergency for us at the eleventh hour. We had had no time to prepare. I frantically called the firm at the very end of the day to see whether we needed an attorney (a call I should have made days earlier.) The very patient woman who answered my call spent a good amount of time taking down all the details of the situation including my "burning" questions and promised to call me back the next day. Not only did she call me back, but she again took the time to convey to me the information I was so desperately looking for. Turns out it wasn't a legal matter, so it wasn't like I was going to become a client, yet she still was incredibly helpful. Her responsiveness and kindness were such a blessing to me.
