I was planning on writing a long, scathing review about this office; but I'll keep it simple. Jennifer Simmons is an incredibly rude, and unpleasant woman. The junior attorney that was assigned to me did a well enough job with my case (hence the 2 stars instead of 1), and I hope that they go on to be a successful attorney at some other office in the future. That said, I would not recommend going to this office, just because of the person who runs it. Very rude. Very Nasty. Very unempathetic. Stay away.

I typically would avoid putting my own stuff out there, but saw some of these postings and felt compelled to write my experience as it is relevant and quite current. Allow me to preface this by saying that if you are looking for the most inexpensive, cheapest attorney – then Jennifer is not for you. She is a professional and a SME in her profession. Experts cost money folks I certainly don’t expect to be paid pennies on the dollar for my skill level. With that being said Jennifer is one of the most ethically sound attorneys that I have ever had interactions with…Almost annoyingly so…lol.. Therefore, please take note: If you are looking for representation that will be on your side no matter what you do – She may not be for you as she represents the “common sense” approach and legally/ethically there is a right and wrong way of doing things. In my experience Jennifer works tirelessly to keep her clients on the “right” side of law and ensure that their actions and outcome are fair. She is highly respected in the area courts, which informs me that she has maintained a positive reputation. Her staff has always been courteous and open in communicating with me in a timely manner. I appreciate her work and would recommend her to anyone.

I have been working with Jennifer Simmons for about 2 years on my child custody case. Our case was quite complex, but I can say that through the process I always felt like Jennifer had my and my childs best interest in mind. I came to her lost and confused. What we appreciate the most is her honesty and how straightforward she was - Jennifer Simmons not sugarcoat situations and give us a false hope. If we were mistaking - she would say it. She was committed, involved and professional. She gave us advices on how to handle difficult situations and did more than just assist us legally. She guided us to grow as people and to learn how to handle stressful situations better - which does not have have a price tag. Jennifer Simmons is not the cheapest attorney out there, but we truly believe she is the best.

Jennifer Simmons is a terrible attorney. She represented me in a child custody case. She was rude and made me feel humiliated. She would threaten me, and pressure me to settle. I paid her over $12000. One week before trial, she had used up all my trust account money ($6000) and she asked me for an additional $6000. She wanted me to pay this now or she would not work on my case (this is against ethics rules). I paid her $1000, then a couple of days later another $5000, but she had stopped working on the case, missed deadlines and then because of this she forced me to settle as she was unprepared for trial. Again, do not use her, especially if you are a man. She took all $12000 for settling a simple child custody case,I believe she padded her invoices. If you too have been ripped off by this attorney, I recommend you file a complaint with the VA State Bar.

If you're looking for the best family law attorney in the area, Thomas Dance is who you need to hire. I was referred to him by a friend who is reluctant to refer anyone for anything. So I knew he came with high praise. He did not disappoint. From his phone consultation to handing my case, he was the consummate professional. He is responsive, extremely knowledgeable about family law, and his advice and guidance is exactly what I needed. I will absolutely use him again if needed. This is the attorney you need and want. Don't expect him to hand you a handkerchief while you cry on his shoulder. He isn't that guy. Mr. Dance is the guy you hire when you have an irrational spouse and you need an end to the drama. He will get it done. Unlike some of the other high end attorneys in the area, Mr Dance does not over bill for services that are not needed, nor will he take the clients answers to discoveries only to copy and paste them into court documents while charging billable hours for the effort. If you can afford Mr. Dance this will be the best money you spend during your divorce. His advise is spot on. What he will save you in emotional stress, monetary loss, and your overall sanity in the long run is worth every penny upfront.

This is the second time I have retained Mr. Dance as a family law attorney. First in my own divorce case and the second for my daughter's custody and support case. For my own case, I retained Thomas after working with two prior attorneys for 2.5 years and not being able to come to a resolution. Within a couple of months, Thomas lent clarity and focus to my case and resolved it in record time. So when my daughter was in need of counsel concerning support and custody, it wasn't even a thought, Thomas was who we called. Thomas saw the case immediately for what it was, removed the emotion and in no time was able to get the case resolved in a best-case-scenario fashion for my daughter and grand-daughter. If you are in need of a family attorney and can get in with Mr. Dance, do yourself a favor and retain his services.

My case just finished. I was being charged with two felonies, each punishable up to 5 years in prison. As a mother and college student being involved in the judicial system for the first time, I was terrified of losing my future. From the beginning, Mr. Burchett told me things were going to be okay. He listened to every detail and negotiated the best possible outcome for me, I was happy with the results of my case. One charge was dismissed, the other was reduced to a misdemeanor with no jail time. Mr. Burchett will never judge you and is very strategic with his plan of action to give you a good outcome. The ladies at the firm Kendra and Angel are sweet and are just as helpful as well. I recommend Mr. Burchett for any criminal or traffic defense!

Idk what to Even say about how impressive any wonderful type of person in the law Windsor was no hope left for me I went for sentencing and I was looking at my back time which was 7 years the craziest thing Mr.burchette pulled off was don't ask me how he did it but he did it come somehow got the judge to let me walk out of there without spending A a day in jail and got me a probation got my community service dismissed got everything dismissed for me when me and Mr. Burchat walked out of the court room shocked that this juat happened... we se my probation offixer and the Commonwealth attorney look at each others like what just happened out So if your having any type of legal issues hes your man I pride miss you you will not regret it he goes above and beyond he treats your case like it was one of his family members escapes professional very curries very honest like very straight forward hes a beast the best also the staff he has is very professional especially the receptionist she is very polite and very very nice and amazing lady like I've called they're never had any issues she's always very very polite even though I'm annoying sometimes and I can call like eight times in a row trying to get in contact with somebody show pick up like this the first time and every time I called

Hired Fred back in December, held on to my retainer for nearly 2 months doing nothing. When I finally leaned on him to actually do something for my case I was met with "Fred is in court 2 days he will get back to you" type messages. One piece of filing was filled out incorrectly by his staff only to be realized after I had said documents notarized and sent out. Fred Called my me on Friday and we had a good plan for him to call the other party in my case, by Monday when he had talked to her it felt like I was talking to her attorney. Save your money go somewhere else you will be better off for it.

I called twice after about two weeks of waiting and spoke with the receptionist, and I still never got a call back about starting my case. Oddly enough, I received multiple calls and emails once I wrote this review, begging for it to be taken down.

As soon as I met Fred, I knew I was dealing with one of the best. I was so nervous to begin the process of divorce, and Fred, with his professional and personal manner, gave me the confidence I needed to move forward. Even though I was overwhelmed with my situation, he got to the heart of my case quickly and was able to present my complaints effectively and succinctly to opposing counsel. Right from the beginning, he was two steps ahead of them. Fred is a stand-up individual who works with true integrity. Something that meant a lot to me- he strived to save me money in fees whenever possible. Plus, his hourly rate is the lowest I have seen, and the consultation was even free! My (ex) husband is a persistent individual. He tried to throw spokes in the process at every turn. Good thing Fred does not take any nonsense. He is a very cool, reasonable and fair person, but is not afraid to play hardball when needed. I gave my trust to Fred and it paid off. Make the appointment. You will be glad you did.

Incredibly professional and responsive. We had what I thought might be a legal situation which turned into an emergency for us at the eleventh hour. We had had no time to prepare. I frantically called the firm at the very end of the day to see whether we needed an attorney (a call I should have made days earlier.) The very patient woman who answered my call spent a good amount of time taking down all the details of the situation including my "burning" questions and promised to call me back the next day. Not only did she call me back, but she again took the time to convey to me the information I was so desperately looking for. Turns out it wasn't a legal matter, so it wasn't like I was going to become a client, yet she still was incredibly helpful. Her responsiveness and kindness were such a blessing to me. I would highly recommend this firm!

Ms. Huchler (my lawyer), Ms. Wallace, Ms. Membreno and Ms. Arp were amazing to work with with throughout the entire process of my divorce! They were very responsive always returning my emails in a timely manner, answered all questions about any legal matter I had so well that a regular guy, like myself, could understand! And you always felt like they cared about helping you and defending you, I know they had several clients they were working with, but I always felt like I had their full attention. I hope that I never have to get divorced again but I would call these fine folks back up in a heartbeat if I ever make that mistake again! Great law firm! Michael Daugherty specifically helped us with an step-child adoption and made it very easy. From start to finish it only took about 2 1/2 months, including waiting for our court date. Don’t believe anything was done for me. If court appoints a mediator go with them, could have done better myself with them and paid less in child support and not paid a lawyer! Also wouldn’t have to wait 9 months until the trial date, and just to be disappointed after trail that nothing changed after the temp motion case. Also not be down over $1000 a month in child support. Lawyer says it’s okay you make a lot of money. Lesson learned hopefully you also don’t make mistake and go with a mediator if the court appoints it. I believe this is the worse that could have happened to me and it did. Even though I had a good case, kids were raised with me, and other parent had mental problems and lives less than 2 miles away. Couldn’t get 50/50 custody, could have gotten closer to 50/50 with mediator and not be down thousands. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Easiest divorce ever. But in all honesty this place was great. Might be a little bit more expensive than another firm (i wouldn't really know, i didn't shop around much) but the made everything extremely simple, and spoke to me in a respectful manner. Nothing was difficult to understand and all in really had to do was sign a few papers when the time came. My mother recommended them because they helped her about 20 years ago or so and they helped me as well. Really appreciate everyone here.

I highly recommend the Daugherty Law Firm and more specifically Kate Daughtery. When I first began my divorce I had no idea what to expect and immediately after our first consultation I felt relieved to be able to hire Kate as my counsel. She was very knowledgeable of what to expect, what to do and how certain decisions will impact myself. Throughout the entire divorce which lasted almost twelve months, due to the separation timeline, Kate was extremely helpful and diligent from start to finish. I always felt that I was confident with her and that I wasn’t being misled or misinformed. When the final stages of the divorce were being discussed, this was one of the hardest parts of the divorce because as a man the laws are rarely in our favor for these types of situations. Kate was honest and negotiated what I believe was the best possible scenario for myself given the circumstances. In closing, divorce is not cheap and a decision not to take lightly. Kate and the Daugherty Law Firm are worth every dollar and are the type of professionals you dream of when having to deal with such an important life event.
