This might seem long but based on my own experience, concise reviews are not so helpful when it comes to finding a CRIMINAL Defense attorney. In a recent experience I had in Los Angeles, I was accused of criminal conduct by law enforcement. While on bail waiting for my court arraignment date, I was extremely worried particularly because of my immigration status as I am an international student on a visa. I could not take any risks in dealing with this matter because any of the accusations I was facing could significantly jeopardize and harm my future in terms of education and career. Because of this, I decided to do extensive research and choose the BEST attorney out there to handle my case and fight the accusations ASAP. After a week, I short-listed a few law firms including the Eisner Gorin LLP based on a few criteria such as, online reviews, records and credentials, as well as the responses that attorneys have provided to the legal questions that were asked on the internet. Moreover, as I was educating myself about the judiciary system of the US, I realized that apparently it can make a huge difference if the defense attorney has a good relationship with the prosecuting attorneys and if he/she understands the dynamics of their office well, which in my case would be the LA city attorney's office. I was falsely accused of attempted murder on a local university campus. Although a key witness denied seeing any violence imposed on the accuser, and there was no physical evidence of an assault, I was arrested because I'm a "big dude," and the accuser was a "small girl" (actual explanation by campus police). I retained Leonard Matsuk to handle a challenging case for my Godson. He had been convicted in the past when he was 18 y/o and was advised to plead no contest by his then public defender. The public defender met with my Godson for all of a few minutes as they were preparing to appear before the judge. This misdemeanor conviction had some serious immigration liabilities for my Godson. The only way to remove this conviction was to put a motion before the Judge to get the original conviction overturned or dismissed by the court. Leonard explained that there would be several roadblocks to overcome in a case like this. Generally, prosecutors and Judges do not like to go back and dismiss a conviction. So knowing it would be a challenge I believed Leonard would do his best. And he did, with Leonard’s legal knowledge and strategy along with all the good and positive contributions documented about my Godson giving back to our community. The motion was put together by Leonard. In the end, Leonard presented the motion to dismiss to the Lead Prosecutor and they did not block it. I was in the court last week when Leonard Matsuk addressed the motion before the judge, he answered the judge’s questions. The prosecutor advised the judge they were not blocking the motion. And the court room challenge was over, the judge overturned or vacated the original conviction thanks to Leonard Matsuk and his legal skills and knowledge. So here is my perspective on this case, and of Leonard’s work. Leonard was honest and upfront from the beginning about this case. He explained to us the challenges involved and the slim possibility of success with this matter. This incompetent lawyer couldn't even get a reduction for a old case and then the state law ended up changing to reduce it anyway , was just anxious to collect another attorney fee for nothing . This would've been my second excess of 100mph charge. After the first one I got when I was 18 I didn't wanna find out what a second offense would be like. License suspension, $1000 fine, 3 points on my record I didn't wanna take a chance. I called David met him at his office for a consultation. I decided he's the guy for the job. I got a speeding ticket on a street near my house. It was my first ticket in 7 years, so I assumed that I could go to traffic school to avoid having the ticket appear on my record; but when I logged on to the court website to pay my ticket, it said that traffic school was not available to me. I found out that the speed recorded on the ticket was 1 mph more than the amount permitted for traffic school. So I looked online to see if there was a traffic ticket lawyer in my area that might be able to request traffic school for me. I called the office of David Dastrup, in Long Beach, and left a message with the receptionist. Mr. Dastrup called me back right away and answered all of my questions. I told him that this was my first ticket in 7 years, and he explained to me that the amount of time between tickets wouldn’t help me in court; he said that many people go for a long time before getting a ticket… it doesn’t always mean they didn’t speed the entire time… it just means they hadn’t been caught yet. He did say that he might be able to request traffic school and possibly even lower the fine a bit. I told him that I was only concerned with keeping the ticket off of my record, and not really that concerned about the fine. The fee he quoted me for his services was much lower than I expected, so I jumped at the chance. Mr. Dastrup has an online portal for sending/receiving documents and for messaging, and he was very good about keeping me updated on my case, via the portal. After my trial (which I did not need to attend), Mr. Dastrup called me and told me that he was able to get the judge to lower the speeding amount so I could go to traffic school, AND he took almost 2/3rds off of the fine amount! I couldn’t believe it; I thought for sure that I would end up with the ticket on my record for years, and that I would be saying to myself, “Well, at least I tried.” I could never have accomplished this without the help and expertise of Mr. Dastrup. Thanks to him, the results were above and beyond what I expected. Mr. Dastrup is very knowledgeable, friendly, a good listener, great with maintaining communication, and charges very reasonable fees.
