My son was living in another state when he was charged with first degree murder for a crime that had been committed several years ago here in California. As soon as I found out about the arrest I made arrangements to take a plane out the next afternoon. As soon as I made my plane reservation I went on line to find an attorney to potentially represent my son. I needed someone who specialized in homicide. Our family had no prior experience with the legal system as it pertains to criminal defense. I had no idea what to expect. Being that it was after normal office hours I left messages with two attorneys. Within minutes, attorney, Russell Babcock returned my call. I explained the reason for my call. He set a meeting for the next morning so I could meet with him and still make my flight in the afternoon. At our meeting I explained everything I knew about the case. He told me about himself and his experience as well as explaining the process and the sequence of events that would take place. I chose not to retain Mr. Ramos after our brief phone consultation. Although he was informative regarding certain details pertaining to my recent arrest, he told me some things that contradicted what two other ex-district attorneys turned criminal defense lawyers had previously told me on my one on one consultation with them. I’m the type of person that likes to get a feel for a person with more than just a five minute phone call, and I told Mr. Ramos that I’m aware that COVID probably prevents doing a lot of in person meetings, but I asked him if he’d be willing to Skype or FaceTime with me so that I could get a better feel for him so that I can make the best decision in retaining an attorney for my very serious criminal case. He rather rudely told me that he doesn’t Skype unless he’s been retained. From that point on, he seemed annoyed. He’s not a cheap lawyer and he wants all money up front (which is his right) but I feel I have a right to see more than a picture and a phone call before paying over 6k to retain someone. I decided to hire Donte T. Wyatt after the courts decided to take action against me on charges from December 2011 for narcotics sales in June 2012. He went through a lot of trouble for me by searching for specifics about my situation for it was not exactly simple. This was my first adult case, however my juvenile record is full with a history of negativity. One of the charges from my juvenile record showed a strike which i DID NOT know about until I hired Donte and he reviewed my records. He told me exactly what I needed to do to impress the judge and show them that i am sincere about changing my life. He urged me to stay in school and excel well in my academics so I had the grades to support our word. He always responded to questions or concerns whenever he had a spare moment to do so. He walked me through my case step by step every time we met, and instead of telling me one big goal were trying to reach, he explained that the strategy he felt would be most effective would be to set smaller goals as if they were stepping stools to reach the top of a ladder. Last Monday was my sentencing date. With the teamwork of him telling me what I needed to do, and me going and doing so, he was able to have my judge ignore my strike, and take into consideration the fact that I had spent time away for this same charge due to a juvenile parole hold. This allowed me to get the time served for those few months I served as a violation which convinced the judge that I had served enough time and that she would allow me to continue trying to better my life in the community rather than spending more time incarcerated. I would highly recommend Mr. Wyatt because he is A) honest, which is something many other attorneys lack today, B) he knows what he is talking about, he told me the possibilities and he told me n specifics what I could do to better the possibilities, and the outcome of my case proves he knew exactly what he was speaking of, and C) he keeps you up to date with any information he acquires and does not sugar coat anything. He tells you how it is.

When a family member of mine was arrested, I really had no clue who to speak with. I was very unfamiliar with the system and after speaking with a list of lawyers, I was really scared we would have to wait to see the judge because of our lack of funds.I remembered hearing of Donte and so I searched his name and gave him a ring. While I was worried about the money, he assured me we would talk about that later after visiting the jail. He literally hung up the phone with me and drove to the jail to speak with my family member. After just a few days, he was able to get her out of there. Since, Donte has been beyond helpful with every single step we have had to go through. Its not easy being caught up in the system and honestly, every time we hit a bump, Donte has been clear, compassionate and efficient.I honestly feel like he gives us great direction on how to take care of our part while providing all of the resources to do so and always holds up his end- no questions. There are a lot of sleazy lawyers, unfortunately. Donte is a good human being and has become a friend. Legal problems can be petrifying, especially when you have a family to take care of.
