Without going into too much detail about what I was being accused of, my case was a life changing one. I was being accused of one of the worst things human being can be accused of. I will begin the review by being as objective as I can be followed by my own personal opinion. I hired this firm to represent me in a complex cps case. The cps case involved fighting for my paternal rights against cps, mom, and ad-litems. This meant it was my lawyer against 3 to 4 other lawyers. I was assigned Carla Ozuna to my case. For a few hearings, I paid a substantial amount of money (perhaps substantial to me but not to others) which is typical of family law cases involving much preparation. My contract involved keeping a minimum retainer balance for the firm to be able to work on my case which at times I failed to do due to lack of funds. Overall, I received positive results from the firm's work which gave me footing with my child. However, I had to switch firms at the end because I couldn't keep up with the minimum retainer agreement. I understand a business cannot be a charity who operates from the bottom of their heart. However, my biggest criticism is that after speaking with other firms, I learned that some firms are willing to work a payment plan (lump sum upfront followed by fixed monthly payments) instead of a minimum retainer model which can quickly become depleted without warning. I found it disappointing that I couldn't convince Ms.Soyars who is in charge of finances to help me with a payment plan to a client who had spent at least 8-10 thousand dollars on her firm in just a few months. I also asked for a jury trial for my cps case and the price quoted seemed extremely pricey. I figured that you would have to make a six figure yearly salary if you live in San Antonio and would want this firm to represent you in a cps jury trial case. I can further corroborate this because I got other prices from other well- established firms for the same service with a more reasonable price and more reasonable payment plan. Now, to touch on the positives. I was a bit worried about being assigned to Ms. Ozuna because she has been practicing law for about 3 years which is not relatively long. However, I was very impressed by her performance in court. She was able to stand her ground and provide great counter arguments against all the lawyers who were advocating for mom and going against me. We tend to equate short time of experience with incompetence, but Ms. Ozuna was everything but. She was able to get me some footing with my son despite the odds which has benefited me greatly. I would have loved for her to represent me in my upcoming jury trial which is what made the who ordeal with the finances such a disappointment. Now, Bianca, Ms. Ozuna's legal aid was also great to work with. Although I am sure she gets paid to be nice, she played the part very well. She kept me updated on almost every aspect of the case and would direct any questions I had immediately to Ms.Ozuna. If you can afford it, this is not a bad firm. Ms. Ozuna seems like force to be reckoned with in court and Bianca was nice and professional.
